If you’re a reader, you know what it’s like to hit a slump. Despite wanting to read, nothing you pick up seems good, you’re not motivated to keep turning the pages, and you generally just feel “blah” about reading.

Well don’t worry, I’m here with some of my tried-and-true methods for getting out of a reading slump so you can dive back into your favorite hobby.

Reread a favorite

Revisit a book you love. For me, if I’m in a bad slump, I reread one of my middle school favorites, The Clique Series. (Don’t judge me.) Something about them is just so fun and nostalgic that I can’t help but devour them! Oh, and did you know there’s going to be a new Clique book coming out? I literally cannot wait.

Gamify your Reading

If you’re like me, you like to turn everything into a competition—even if it’s just with yourself. When I gamify something, I’m going to have more fun with it and be more likely to see it through. Join a reading challenge or use a printable activity like book bingo or TBR jar prompts to add even more fun into your reading and get yourself out of a slump.

Read a short book

Sometimes a quick win gets you back into the reading mood. A few that I love are:

Do a buddy read

Pair up with a friend to read something together so you have some reading accountability. I’m always up for a buddy read! Visit me on Instagram or YouTube to see what’s coming up in my reading plans and join me if you’d like!
